Services

We have a choice of services on a Sunday plus a short service on a Wednesday and all are welcome.  We are still taking a cautious approach with regard to Covid: hand santizer is provided for your use in the porch as you enter, mask wearing is recommended and we encourage socially distanced seating.

Live Stream - For those who cannot come in person the 10.00am service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel HTSVicar

8:00am Book of Common Prayer Communion (Weekly)
This service begins our day of worship and is held in the choir stalls at Holy Trinity. Using the 1662 prayer book communion service first written by Thomas Cranmer in 1548, this quiet service lasts between 30 and 35 minutes. A short homily of 5 minutes explores the scriptures used for the day. We have printed a new service booklet that allows those unfamiliar with this pattern of service to easily follow and take part. All are welcome to experience worship that has been held in this way (with only minor revision in 1662!!) for well over 450 years.

10:00am Holy Communion using Common Worship (Weekly)
The liturgy that shapes this service was first introduced in the year 2000. It echoes many aspects of the prayer book service, but includes 8 versions of the Eucharistic prayer; these are the prayers used as the bread and wine are consecrated for communion. All liturgy and hymn words are displayed on a screen. A short sermon explores the scriptures used for the day. We shall also be offering sung worship choosing music from the hymn book that best suits our service and season. Held every Sunday in the nave of the church, this service will last approximately an hour.

The first Sunday of each month will be adapted to make it deliberately family friendly with provision for children to have their own group during the service. It will continue to be a Communion service shaped by the familiar liturgy but with a lighter touch. The music will reflect a broader choice to include songs the children are familiar with. For a period of time they will leave the main service to have a group of their own; a very familiar pattern for many people. We are hoping to provide for a children's group with supervision for children with special needs and ideally have crèche supervision too.

Our standard Sunday services run throughout the year (except the 8 am service which is once a month). Sometimes they change times, particularly around Christmas, Easter and the summer holidays.  Please always check the 'Calendar' section to confirm timings.

Wednesday Communion (Weekly)
